Love, to Live from

The greatest thanks
go to
those who
give a kind of love
we would wish

to refuse;
How bitter
the pill;
Sting!
Of the syringe!

If not administered,
how else
would you exist?
If not
for the

check
Issued,
of IOUs and
deferred dreams
For treatment
That kills
More than just

The tumor
It is love
The kind
We do no write
About
Unconditional,
out of basic
human
necessity
to survive,
with

the pack;
because
we all are
one part
of the whole
this is love
that we would

live for,
and so we

do.

Present in the Now

“Just do it”
They told us
As kids and adolescents
Check! Mark
my words
Then they erased
All those learned lessons

To make us
Yuppy-clones, petrified of
“there is no wrong answer,”
because
all answers
were answers
depending on…
they were none
and all
each
wrong,

so that decisions
we belabor
we have just made.
And more of your time
wasted
as we worry over
wasted time

Forget past
And future
Ground self
in
present
as we grind
Arabica beans
or count sheep
to sleep

We each only live once
in this very instant
that is already
long gone past,
and here
is now.

XV. Footprints.

They met once

before

and now again.

here, as new people

on a sandbar

where seashells

ocean waves,

survivor

and troubador serenades

mix

to conjure that

which is envied

above

and below.

They each find self

in search for each other,

Two pair

of footprints

now

meandner,

overlap

loop,

entwine,

And parallel

over wet

and dry sands,

in and out of surf,

telling their tale

for all to see.

The End.

X. Maroon

“Jetsam”

Limp, exhausted,
she washes in,
with the incoming tide.
Along with debris from her raft,
and self.
She wakes
from the scrape of beach sand
grated against her cheek.

He stares out
At the water,
it is crystal clear.
His makeshift ship,
To his back,
on it
he considers attempting
to set sail.

She now learns to walk
on land
and to comb sand.
She is not the one
who left shore
so long ago
–this creature who grits teeth,
And holds in
air,
and twists legs into tail,
and arms wrestling waters
And demons
Of mind, air and sea.
